I founded Northern Nevada based Creative Estate Organizers in order to pursue a passion for helping people find order, balance and joy in their lives. One of the areas that I found many people lacking in knowledge and direction was in managing their finances, particularly related to estate planning. With a background in accounting and financial services, I focused on finding solutions to improve the process for estate planning and preparedness.
What is it you do?
I believe in a holistic approach to estate planning that addresses true motivation, guiding principles, ideals, beliefs and personal insights, morally as well as financially, as the foundation for an estate plan. Starting with your values and beliefs, I help you see these as a compass for developing your estate plan.
Continuing on this journey, I address the following three elements in establishing a sound, estate preservation plan: elimination of financial clutter; organizing your estate; and good estate planning essentials:
Financial Clutter – Anything that obstructs, hinders, blocks, prevents or frustrates your financial wellbeing, security, or advantage. Includes, but is not limited to, unorganized, missing and misplaced important documents and files, not started or unfinished estate plans, unpaid and overdue bills or insurance claims not filed, unknown net worth, money earning no returns, or money owed to you not collected.
Estate Organizing –Documentation, organization and instructions for all the information relating to your estate, including financial, legal, household, health, personal, and final arrangements in order to provide the direction that your family needs in the event of a crisis, emergency, incapacitation, or death.
Estate Planning–Process for determining your last wishes regarding both values and valuables; making arrangements for the care of your dependents; determine what should happen to you and your resources if you become incapacitated during your lifetime; preserving your financial independence; minimize estate taxes; maximize inheritance.
From helping a disorganized client sort and organize their most treasured heirlooms and mementos, to finding the most desirable outcome in holding, managing, and distributing their hard earned assets, my goal is to provide a plan and a purpose based on your motives, values and beliefs to carry out your wishes for the remainder of your life and after death.

Susan McCarthy is an Independent Advisor with The Estate Plan® and has more than twenty years combined experience in the financial services industry as an accountant, project manager, real estate property manager, consultant, and business owner. She earned a Master of Estate Preservation Certification from the Abts Institute of Estate Planning, a Bachelor of Science degree in business majoring in accounting at DePaul University, PMP certification with a Master’s Certification in Project Management from Villanova University, as well as a Quality Improvement Associate’s certification.
